Network marketing is an industry that has been around for decades and has produced more millionaires since the Great Depression than any other career path in the world. The most seductive attributes of network marketing usually are associated with the financial, time and individual freedoms they provide. Those same freedoms that are the selling points of network marketing could be the very reasons why 97% of aspiring network marketing enthusiasts will fall flat on their faces.

In the natural progression of career planning you are taught to go to school and find something that will ultimately give you a weekly or bi-weekly paycheck for the work you completed the week before. Schools are set up to give you the skills to be a lifetime employee and if you are lucky enough you can retire somewhere in your sixties. Hopefully there will be social security benefits available but if not you can always be a greeter at the local superstore, possibly overnight but what else would you be doing anyway?

If you are like 90% of the population then your parents reinforced this exercise in futility and also told you that education and finding a traditional job is the way to go. Nowhere along the way did anybody even suggest that creating your own wealth would be a viable option. Many think of network marketing as an underground group of cult members that should be avoided like the plague. This is probably why there is such a huge failure rate when it comes to network marketing.

We are programmed to punch a clock, do a set of pre-determined tasks and circle back to the time clock to end our day. There is even a cool luxury that most employers haveā€¦ you can eat when they tell you WOW THANKS Mr. BOSSMAN. We are trained from a very young age to have our day and workload planned for us, leaving us entrepreneurially challenged. We can literally sabotage ourselves if we have no structure, no set deadlines and no policies and progressive discipline to threaten us with.

We have not been given the guidance along the way to thrive in an independent environment. Setting up a schedule, a list of tasks and goals will keep your momentum going forward. If you need to be micromanaged then just stay with your traditional job because network marketing does take work and consistent action.       Thanks Ryan – It’s important that we are given direction but also be taught to be strong enough to carry our own weight. A mentor can only get us as far as we want to go.

  2. Right on Dominick! Why continue to be a slave to the grind and let others tell when you can eat, when you can take your children to the doctor, when you can take a vacation? Doesn’t make sense, especially in today’s times. As far as sabotaging your business due to that freedom you so desired…..SO TRUE! We’ve been guilty of being lackadaisical occasionally and it showed. At the same time, we’ve also been a huge motivator for each other, because of there being two of us, we push each other and challenge each other, so it helps.

      I found out I really don’t like being told what to do but when there was nobody doing it I struggled. It was just a natural instinct to follow a plan….now I know that I can be the one actually making the plan too.
