What Is Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate Marketing

Multiple Streams of Income Rock

Can You Make Money With Affiliate Marketing?

Affiliate marketing is when a company or business pays another entity to refer customers to them usually through a website. Think of it as good old fashioned word of mouth referrals but you get paid a commission.

Affiliate marketing used to be a secondary stream of income for many internet marketers but now has become a primary income source for many successful entrepreneurs. Affiliate marketing utilizes traditional methods like email, organic search engine and display advertising. The other popular non-traditional methods include product review articles and videos.

Affiliate Marketing Links

Some common ways to do affiliate marketing are by referring one website  to another using affiliate links and also using a squeeze page or sales funnel. This will capture a visitor’s information and attempt to sell a product or multiple products through either the initial visit or future communications.

In July 1996 Amazon launched its associate program that would allow website owners to place banners or links on their webpages. These links could be used to purchase a book or direct the person to the Amazon website while being linked to the affiliate marketing associates account. This process would pay a commission for all sales from this visit. Amazon was not the first company to offer affiliate marketing commissions but their success set the stage for many other companies to adopt an affiliate marketing program.

Many internet marketers have found ways to incorporate affiliate marketing by placing ads on their blogs. They can advertise the tools that help them succeed as network marketers and actually show the benefits that contribute to their business.

Affiliate Marketing to Fund Your Business

Training programs, web hosting companies, auto responders and marketing systems are just a few of the affiliate marketing opportunities that are available to make money in your business. Some offer a onetime commission while others offer an ongoing residual income that will last as long as the subscriber utilizes the product. This is a great way to fund your marketing expenses while you are building your network marketing business.

Many network marketers will only promote products that they use or have used in the past, this will add to the credibility of the product and the seller. In my personal opinion it looks very tacky to have a ton of affiliate links all over your site if you are looking to brand yourself as an internet marketer. A few well placed links are much more effective and professional looking.

    Dominick,

I have not gotten too much into the affiliate world, but have slowly started to experiment with it. I like helping the small business owners that have created their own affiliate…got one sale the other day. Not too bad for an amateur I think.

Look forward to reading more of your blog posts.

      Thanks Leona,

I am not an affiliate marketer either but I do promote the products and tools that I use for success in my network marketing business.

It is a good way to get money to cover my marketing expenses and actually it adds up quickly, I like to learn about everything that is out there
even if it does not pertain to me.
Thank you for commenting and I look forward to hearing from you in the future.

Really good information on affiliate marketing Dominick. I started promoting affiliate products more than 3 years ago. Like you, it was a really good source for earning income towards my marketing budget. Today, I still enjoy promoting products that I feel are a benefit for my clients and those that visit my site. I enjoy seeing commission income dropped into my PayPal account!

Thanks again for sharing this information.

  3. I will admit to being one of the people in the group that only puts affiliate links to products and services that I have used or bought.
This is a limiting factor to making income online, so I am investigating ways to expand the range of affiliate products that I endorse and advertise on my site(s).
Thanks for this easy to read summary of affiliate marketing.

      Thanks Neville,

I looked at your site and it is so clean looking and easy to navigate….obviously you are good at what you do.
The reason I try to stick with what I personally use is because it is not my primary business, If I was an affiliate
marketer I would probably try to use more products, write reviews and get testimonials from users of the products.

      Thanks for the kind words.

      Have A Successful Day,

  4. Hi Dominick,

Nice post and a solid breakdown of affiliate marketing.

I promote only a few affiliate links. It’s critical to have actually used the product; this helps loads in the trust department. I agree about blogs with affiliate links all over the place. I’ve seen this referred to as having your “blog vomit buy me” by my good friend and fellow blogger Marcus Baker.

    Thanks for sharing Dominick!
